Three things, in this order. Is the feeler arm down or the switch on, because it gets knocked up constantly. Is the freezer actually at 0 degrees, because a warm freezer stops ice production and that is a refrigerator problem rather than an ice maker one. Is the water filter overdue, since a clogged filter starves the ice maker before it affects the dispenser. 0 degrees Fahrenheit is the published target for proper ice production, with the fresh food side between 33 and 40. A freezer sitting around 15 or 20 degrees will keep food frozen and still make little or no ice, which is why people are surprised by this one. Going too far the other way causes its own problem: below about minus 10 the cube surface freezes so fast that the harvest fires before the cube has fully formed, and you get small hollow ice.
Not faulty. Cloudy ice is dissolved minerals and trapped air, and it happens because a freezer ice maker freezes water fast and from all sides at once, which traps everything in the middle of the cube. Clear ice machines get their clarity by freezing slowly in thin layers so air and minerals are pushed out as it forms. If you want clear ice from a refrigerator ice maker, no repair will deliver it, because it is the method rather than a malfunction.
Usually the filter or the ice itself rather than the machine. Filters want changing about every 6 months and a tired one passes taste straight through. Ice is also porous and absorbs whatever is in the freezer, so a bin of ice that has sat for months while nobody used it will taste like the freezer. Dump the bin, replace the filter, run a few batches through and see. If it still tastes wrong after all that, the supply line or the mold is worth looking at.
That is ice that partly melted and refroze, and the question is why it got warm. Low usage is the innocent answer: ice sitting untouched for weeks slowly sublimates and welds together. The other answers matter more, and they are a door not sealing, a freezer cycling too warm, or a defrost problem letting the compartment rise between cycles. If you use the ice regularly and it still clumps, that is worth a visit.
