Smeg was founded in 1948 in Guastalla, in Italy's Emilia-Romagna region. This is the same area that produces Ferrari, Lamborghini, Ducati, and Bertazzoni. Smeg stands for Smalterie Metallurgiche Emiliane Guastalla, a reference to the family's original specialty in enameling.
