Maytag traces its history to Newton, Iowa, in 1893, where Frederick L. Maytag and his partners began a farm-equipment business. To broaden production beyond the seasonal farm-equipment market, the company introduced its first washing machine, the Pastime, in 1907. Laundry became central to the Maytag identity, and the brand later expanded into additional household-appliance categories. Maytag became part of Whirlpool Corporation in 2006.
